Certain myths about health and well-being are passed down from generation to generation with little fact to back them up.
Whether you’re still worried about reading in the dark or can’t eat without a toothbrush handy, the facts in this infographic from unum are sure to ease your mind.
Many of us will have grown up hearing sayings such as “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, and while most of us will know that there’s no truth in this, some health and wellbeing myths can be harder to dispel. With so many ideas in circulation regarding everything from brushing our teeth to what to eat when we’re feeling under the weather, it can be difficult to know which is correct. With sickness absence costing UK businesses a staggering £29 billion a year, being clued up on health and wellbeing related issues could go some way to reducing the cost to your business.
For example, many of us will have been told as a child to eat our carrots as they’ll help us see in the dark, however this is untrue and the myth was circulated by the RAF as propaganda during World War II. However, other myths, such as those relating to dental hygiene can be more detrimental if followed, such as rules surrounding how soon after eating you should brush. How many of the myths below did you think were true?
