The UK government is planning to ban so-called “gay conversion therapy.” The controversial technique uses a variety of methods to convince or cajole members of the LGBTQ community that they are not, in fact, LGBTQ. It treats being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender as a mental illness. From the article: “The £4.5 million initiative follows a survey of LGBT people that found 2% of the 108,000 respondents had undergone conversion therapy while 5% had been offered it.” The ban is meant to counter anti-LGBTQ discrimination.
