
Dad jokes seem to be the latest thing that everyone loves to hate. They elicit eye rolls and laughs all in the same room. Even though they’re considered “bad” humor––that is, not clever or elevated––do we need to give dad jokers such disrespect? Actually, dad jokes are a part of an important stage of development for kids since dad jokes are a form of play. Play helps kids develop skills for the real world, in this case, verbal acuity, humor, and cheerfulness. Kids who have these traits tend to be more successful, so by all means embrace the dad joke.
