
Sure, the driver licking the top of the steering wheel at the end of the video -- so that her DNA would start the Lexus -- was a final giveaway that Lexus's new "Genetic Select" service with 23andme is just an April Fool's joke.
But of all the ways that the Toyota-owned luxury brand could have put together an April Fool's stunt, joining in its execution with the high-profile genome-mapping service created an air of believability that is sure to take many people to the realm of credulity. Given where real life and the auto industry seem to be headed these days, the idea of a vehicle that would be individually selected for an owner based on his or her unique DNA, physiology and personality isn't as far-fetched as it may seem.
