Imagine a Texan ranch house. Imagine a Victorian. Imagine a midwestern red brick house. Finally, imagine a bank. Now put them all in a blender and combine them. That is a McMansion. It’s an architectural hodgepodge, it’s a horrible mess, and people hate them––except the people who live in them, of course. So what’s the deal with these McMansions? This Washington Post video explains that they’re basically designed to imitate banks for a reason: status symbols.
