How The Catholic Church Censored Hollywood's Golden Age



Hollywood’s Golden Age was shaped by a variety of factors, but from the years 1934 to 1954 one of the most powerful factors was the Catholic Church. Most people do not know that Hollywood producers sought the Church’s approval on their films. Why would producers do that? Because movies were not protected by the First Amendment, and so states could censor them if the citizens wanted it. If movies offended the Catholic Church, then the Church could mobilize its members against the movie.
