Batman: The Animated Series was one of the great children’s cartoons of all time. Its soundtrack, its animation, its storytelling, and its thematic explorations were all second to none. But what few people know is that the show was actually pretty heavily censored. Animators weren’t supposed to show guns, alcohol, drugs, certain types of violence, and more (all depicted in the image for this post). This video makes a good case that censorship actually helped shape the show.
