FRIENDS - Marshmello & Anne-Marie By Tina Boo Choreography

1Million is a powerhouse studio based in Seoul that opened three years ago. In addition to offering four to five classes a day at their studio, they also post routines and tutorials on YouTube for their 6 million YouTube subscribers. (Many of their fans at KCON had never seen them IRL before, proving you don't have to be based in Korea to benefit from 1Million's expertise.) But no matter how challenging (and impressive!) their videos appear, 1Million's co-founder and chief choreographer Lia Kim — who has created routines for superstars like TWICE and Sunmi (formerly of Wonder Girls, who Kim has also choreographed for) — says the studio was founded with beginners in mind. “There are a lot of skillful choreographers at the studio,” Kim told me at KCON, “so the dances might look difficult, but we focus mostly on the beginner classes.” Their goal was to create a studio environment that feels easy-going and approachable, even for those born without any ~moves~, like myself. “When we do beginner classes, we try not to make it feel like a dance class, but like we’re hanging out and having fun together,” Kim explained.
