
If you haven’t seen Nathan Chen on the ice, you’ve seen him somewhere else by now.
On Super Bowl Sunday, the 18-year-old figure skating phenom was briefly the most watched person in America, starring in an NBC promotional commercial for the Winter Olympics. Chen is also the focus of a United Airlines spot, and resides on countless supermarket shelves, featured on countless boxes of Corn Flakes.
It’s still strange for Chen — “When he got on the cereal box, he sent my son a text, ‘Can you believe it?” Cati Snarr said — and his friends and family, seeing the soft-spoken teenager in a series of once-unthinkable situations, like towering over Times Square in a massive Coca-Cola ad.
