What many people forget is that diamond is a 10 on Moh's scale of mineral hardness, which is scales resistance to scratching. Any substance can scratch a substance lower than it on the scale. This is why Cody in his own video scratches a piece of synthetic ruby, which is a 9 on the scale.
However, hardness is this sense of the word does not mean strength. If you were to hit a diamond with a big hammer on an anvil, it could very well shatter. Localized pressure like in a waterjet like this is a very different kind of force than the shear force a diamond experiences when being scratched.
