One of my (few) qualms with Captain America: Civil War is that the film’s third act essentially undid Scott Lang’s redemption arc and somewhat negated Clint Barton’s retirement arc. Sure, Lang (Paul Rudd) and Barton (Jeremy Renner) didn’t think they were going to be facing a boatload of pissed-off Avengers, but at the end of the film they are fugitives and once again separated from their families. Well, for what it’s worth, Ant-Man and the Wasp is using this as an opening jaunt. So, once again, a game-changing story thread is mostly ignored in the present-tense movie only to be covered in the sequel.
