News Anchor Responds To Viewer Who Called Her The N-Word

On Tuesday night all of Atlanta was anxiously waiting out the results of the city’s mayoral election, a nail-biter shot through with racial and historical implications. Two city councilwomen — Mary Norwood and Keisha Lance Bottoms — were up for the city’s top job, with fewer than 800 votes giving Bottoms the win. But the election was significant because had Norwood bested the other candidate, it would have been the first time Atlanta elected a white mayor since 1969. As the local CBS 46’s news anchors discussed the results, Sharon Reed, Ben Swann and Alicia Roberts discussed how the shifting racial demographics of Atlanta played a part in the election. Then in the middle of the broadcast, Reed, the only African American on the panel, pumped the brakes.
