Selena Gomez just gave one of the most powerful performances of her career as she took the stage for the first time in over a year at the 2017 American Music Awards.
The performance began with a car in a misty "forest" as wolves howled in the background. From somewhere in all that fog, Selena belted the opening lyrics of her new single, "Wolves." In your eyes, there's a heavy blue / One to love and one to lose / Sweet divide, a heavy truth / Water or wine, don't make me choose." As the mist dissipated, Selena was revealed to be lying in front of the car in a white negligee, wet-look hair (newly blonde, not to mention), and a cross necklace with her knees painted to look as if she'd scraped her knees.
She was joined by dancers in white lace nightgowns while her collaborator, producer Marshmello, and a backing band accompanied her in the shadows. The pop star's dancers pushed and pulled on the her as they danced around her, at one point pulling her up in a choreographed crowd-surf.
