Pigeons Have An Alarm System Built Into Their Wings




Most people write pigeons off as flying rats––and with good reason, the things are filthy. But some species pigeons have a special warning siren built into their wings. It’s an especially thin feather, and when the pigeons have to take flight at speed, say because a predator is after them, that feather vibrates at a higher frequency than the rest. That vibration creates a high pitched sound, warning the other pigeons around it.
