
According to the Guinness World Records, the 23-year-old had wanted to win the title "ever since he was a child," and was inspired to attempt the record after hearing about the previous record holder, Simon Elmore.
In order to break the record, Mr Maharana had to make sure all of the plastic straws were in his mouth for a minimum of at least 10 seconds without falling out.
As per the rules, the challenger cannot use their hands to support the straws during the 10-second period. They are, however, allowed to put rubber bands around the plastic straws to hold them together. Each straw must have a minimum diameter of 0.64 centimetres.
