Mabel Breaks Down Her Breakout Chart Hit ‘Finders Keepers’

Sometimes inspirations can be found in unlikely places. Before April 2016, Mabel had never worked with her brother Marlon Roudette on music. “We spent two days in the studio, nothing was really happening” she remembers. “My brother said to sit by the piano play some chords, see what happens and it was like I was possessed – because I swear the first three chords I played became the intro to ‘Finders Keepers’ and then we wrote it all in 45 minutes.” A quick beginning for a gigantic song. ‘Finders Keepers’ is of course, the Mabel song that has seen her rightfully crack into the charts – though it did so about 6 months after its release. Though she’s since upped her game with her stunning ‘Ivy To Roses’ mixtape, it’s ‘Finders Keepers’ which is popping in and out of the Top 10 in the UK Singles Charts. No wonder, though. Built around a subtle set of piano chords, a stuttering beat and Mabel’s faultless songcraft – it’s a love song in all the traditional ways, though packs that unique undercurrent that makes Mabel such an exciting prospect.
