Recently, I ran to the grocery store and grabbed what I thought were sweet potatoes, and the clerk asked me if she knew if they were that or yams.
Good question.
Though I spent years teaching about yams thanks to Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, it turns out I didn’t have a clue as to what the difference was.
