Everyone loves to meet a new dog, but very few of us are educated about how to meet a new dog. For example, how often have you run up to a new dog and pat it on the top of the head? This is a terrible way to meet a new dog for a few reasons. First, petting a dog with an open hand can lead to a nasty bite. Second, patting a dog on the head is very aggressive in dog language. Instead, you should approach the dog, show it the back of your had so it can sniff you a bit, and then scratch under its chin.
