Halloween Pumpkin Carving In Motion

Carving pumpkins is a special treat for the whole family, when the orange, ripple-coated surface becomes a projection screen for creative ideas. If you have a lot of pumpkins left, you can go for a high-end project, as Sean Ohlenkamp and Robert Popkin have done in collaboration with musician Grayson Matthews . For the stop-motion film "Oh my Gourd", the team has hollowed out, ornamented and presented interesting pumpkins. How many berry fruits were actually modeled, is not known. But it must have been hundreds, even if you used single pumpkins for different frames in part multiple times by turning another side of the camera ... And best of all: even the soundtrack is based almost exclusively on the Halloween tradition and was used with pumpkins and the used Carving tool generated. No wonder that the project ultimately took years to complete - so much effort for not even two minutes of film! Dozens upon dozens upon pumpkins were cut, gutted, rotated, scraped, poked, slapped, and banged to make this stop-motion animation and the music that bring it to life. It took a few years - pumpkins red, schedules get busy - but we loved discovering the methods that worked and the many that did not. "
