
In the 17th century, England’s naval forces were giving France more than a few sleepless nights, so a plan was hatched to give the French an edge.
Although the plans for Fort Boyard began in the days of Louis XIV, it wasn’t begun until Napolean’s reign or completed until the mid-1800s, because building it was not only difficult, but also pretty darned expensive.
