U.K. bakery brand Warburtons has been all about big, blockbuster-style productions in its recent work by WCRS, and it's worked well--its epic 2015 ad featuring the Muppets was voted the most successful Christmas ad of 2015 in a viewer survey.
After an action thriller spoof starring Sly Stallone, now it's back with a new spot that spoofs costume dramas, in particular, the well-known 1990s dramatization of "Pride and Prejudice" starring Colin Firth. Perhaps with a nod to other brands weaving romantic sagas around their founders (we're looking at you, Burberry), "Pride & Breadjudice" has comedian Peter Kay showing up in real-life chairman Jonathan Warburton's office proposing an epic drama based on his ancestors.
We then see the drama, featuring a feisty Elizabeth Bennet-type fending off suitors and fallling for Kay's portly version of Mr. Darcy (complete with Photoshopped abs). There's a bread-kneading nod to the potter's wheel scene in "Ghost," as we build up to the moment where Kay looks set to receate Firth's dripping-wet-shirt moment from the drama. How will it all end?
