“Oktavist” Singers Sing An Octave Below Bass

Male singing voices go like this: the highest is a tenor, they’ve got that sweet, delicate sound; next are baritones, who can alternate between low and medium-high notes with ease; finally, there’s the bass singers, they’ve got that low rumbly voice. In Russian folk music, though, there’s another section: Oktavists. These guys sing so low, and so loud, that they’re almost inhuman.
