
Autism is a reality for more and more families every year, yet unfamiliarity with the special nature of autistic children often leads to bullying that’s both devastating and destructive. Fortunately, the one street it’s always safe to play on is welcoming an autistic child named Julia into the fold: Sesame Street.
As the website Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children explains:
“Developed with input from parents, people who serve the autism community, and people with autism, See Amazing in All Children offers families ways to overcome common challenges and simplify everyday activities,” the website’s description states. “At the same time, the project fosters an affirming narrative around autism for all families and kids.”
Julia’s premiere is in the free digital book, We’re Amazing, 1, 2, 3!, in which she appears with Elmo and Abby Cadabby, but that’s just one part of the campaign. Here’s a look at another part of the project:
