Chinese City Introduces Cell Phone Walking Lanes

You know how annoying it is to be sprinting through the city trying to make it back to work after lunch ran long or rushing to a meeting, and there they are, smack dab in the middle of the sidewalk: cell phone walkers, the zombies of the pedestrian world. The Chinese city of Chongqing decided to put an end to this nuisance by marking special lanes for these distracted walkers, which they appear to be following. A similar experiment run in Washington by National Geographic turned out to be an utter failure, as U.S. pedestrians are apparently so distracted as to not notice the markings, so don’t look forward to this stateside any time soon. We’re still struggling with the whole bike lane issue.
