Why A Top Spy Plane Needs A Car Chase To Land Safely

One would think a spy plane from the country with the most powerful military in the world would come equipped with everything it needed to get the job done, but the US Lockheed U-2 can’t land safely without a car chase. That’s right. In part, thanks to the need for the aircraft to be as light as possible, its landing gear is minimal and doesn’t offer much in the way of stability. Limited visibility also makes it necessary for a car to chase the plane as it lands to talk the pilot down. Just goes to show all the tech in the world doesn’t replace a great wingman.
