Weird Lives Of Xenophyophores, Giant Single Celled Ocean Dwellers

We generally think of single-celled animals as being teeny-weeny to the point of being invisible to the naked eye, but not so the xenophyophore. This living creature — which can’t be classified as animal, mineral, or fungus — skirts the rules of single-celldom by containing many nuclei rather than a few. Did we mention they can grow to be twenty centimeters in diameter? And live in houses made of their own poop?
