As more and more cities are jumping on the biking bandwagon, the problem still remains of how to make intersections safer and more effective for bicycle traffic.
This idea, based on the Dutch model and submitted as part of the George Mason University 2014 Cameron Rian Hays Outside the Box Competition, provides more protection and visibility than what currently exists in the U.S. Of course, a city would need to have streets wide enough to implement such changes and room in the budget to do so, but it’s still an intriguing idea, and one that makes us think more deeply about how to make our cities healthier for all.
