Why Molten Aluminum & Lava Lamps Don’t Mix

Every video produced by TheBackyardScientist makes us want a mini metal foundry of our very own, not only for its destructive power, but also for the accidental aluminum creations that result from his experiments. Here, he takes the suggestion of a fan to pour molten aluminum into a lava lamp, which we, of course, don’t suggest you try to imitate for safety reasons and because it’s now already been done. The lesson here is, don’t pour stuff in your lava lamp, especially when that stuff is 1,221°F.
