It isn’t often one gets enough agitated, sword-bearing individuals in the same place to create a headline like this, but in this case, the weaponry was only meant to be ceremonial.
Ironically enough, the occasion was to commemorate the thirty-year anniversary of a military raid on the state of Amritsar’s Golden Temple that claimed the lives of hundreds; fortunately, it is estimated only twelve were injured in this scuffle, where attendees can be seen fighting in crowded halls and up and down staircases.
One account says it was a disagreement over speaker order that caused the argument, another than a “a group of ‘violent Sikh activists'” demanding a separate homeland were to blame.
