A magnificent snowy owl briefly posed for a road traffic camera while soaring through the air in Montreal on Sunday. The snowy owl is an official national symbol of Quebec, after it was adopted as such by the legislature in 1987. It usually resides in the arctic tundra to the north of the province, although it often visits southern Quebec during winter. The impressive wingspan displayed in the images could be as long as 1.45 metres, about the height of a small adult Canadian woman.
