Part of the beauty and fascination with big cats is their incomparable grace, which makes the history of Mickey all the more heartbreaking.
Due to severe neglect in an Alabama backyard zoo and what veterinarians believe to have been untreated ACL tears, Mickey could barely stand much less strut the way a cougar should.
Rather than resort to euthanasia, though, a team of vets from Big Cat Rescue went the extra mile to get him back on his feet.
“He’s never going to walk perfectly but he’s doing incredibly well, and he’s able to get around on his own,” [Susan] Bass said. “We’re so happy to be able to give him a home for the rest of his life.”
