Octopus Scoots Across Ocean Floor Carrying Coconut Shelter

Observing animal behavior makes for many a strange tale and, occasionally, a fatality, but not usually due to laughing too hard. “I almost drowned laughing when I saw this the first time,” [Julian] Finn [of Australia’s Victoria Museum] told the BBC. “I could tell it was going to do something, but I didn’t expect this — I didn’t expect it would pick up the shell and run away with it.” Apparently, octopus will often carry shelter into unfamiliar territory for protection, and you’ll see how it’s put to use at the very end of the video. Clever little varmint.
