When Adam Walker took to the waters of New Zealand’s Cook Strait for the sake of dolphin and whale conservation, he never imagined his efforts would be rewarded so soon by the very creatures he, himself, was striving to protect.
Halfway into the swim of sixteen miles, he looked down to see a great white shark circling below him, perhaps seeking an easy snack in open waters, but a pod of ten dolphins had other plans.
For the next hour, the dolphins formed a protective barrier around Walker, which was caught on video, and amazed the swimmer.
“I’d like to think they were protecting me and guiding me home!” he posted on Facebook. “This swim will stay with me forever.”
No doubt it will provide inspiration for Walker to complete the seventh, and final, swim of the Oceans Seven mission, which would make him only the second person to do so.
