One bellyflop off a high dive teaches most of us the reality of how hard water is when you hit the wrong way, yet pelicans routinely perform the most amazing dives and keep going back for more. PBS’ Deep Look examines how they manage to hit the water from a forty feet high without breaking their bones to smithereens or even blinding themselves in the process. They might not be the most glamorous-looking bird, but they do have excellent form.
