The rainbow flag has become universally recognized as the symbol of the LGBTQ community, and it’s time to fly it at half-mast for its creator, Gilbert Baker.
Baker lived in the electric atmosphere of San Francisco in the late 1970s when he became interested in the creation of flags and banners, particularly representing the pride of the gay community in 1978.
Baker spoke to PBS about the creative process back in 2015.
