Tinder goes to the zoo to help orangutans find love

When your species is endangered, you need all the help you can get finding love and getting down to business. That’s why staff at the Netherlands’ Apenheul Primate Park are running a four-year experiment called “Tinder for Apes,” which involves letting one of their eligible orangutan ladies choose her mate with the help of a tablet. It may seem like a long shot, but considering the cost of transporting an animal across the world just to discover it’s disgust at first sight, the approach could both save precious conservation dollars and reveal what primates find appealing in mates. The biggest problem they’re confronting is making a tablet strong enough to withstand the displeasure of the bachelorette, 11-year-old Samboja.
