‘PPAP’ Gets the Orchestra Treatment in Pikotaro’s Japan Record Awards Performance

If you think one of the most annoying, yet catchiest viral songs of 2016 was gone and buried deep into the vault of embarrassing things we would rather forget, well, think again.The most viral song in 2016 got the grand orchestra treatment when singer Pikotaro was invited to perform the hugely successful earworm, PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) at the Japan Record Awards 2016.Pikotaro, the fictional singer-songwriter portrayed by Japanese comedian Daimaou Kosaka, released a music video of the song back in August and has since gone viral, racking up over 100 million views and reaching number 1 in the Billboard Japan Hot 100 Chart.This is one song you’re surely going to find yourself singing in your head throughout the day.
