First footage of live ghost shark caught in natural habitat

You never know quite what you’ll find when the camera starts rolling in the deep, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute wasn’t expecting this specimen. The pointy-nosed blue ratfish, also dubbed the ghost shark, has only been documented living in the waters around Australia and New Zealand, but even there has never been seen alive in its natural habitat. If the strange beauty of the fish isn’t enough to peak your interest, another fun fact is that the male sex organ pops out of its forehead. (No, that’s not in this video. As good a reason as any to keep the funding going, though.)
