Have a stability ball sitting around?
Well, get ready for a great core workout with these six exercises you can do anywhere, anytime with this one piece of equipment.
As Harvard Medical School explains:
Properly building up your core cranks up the power. A strong core also enhances balance and stability. Thus, it can help prevent falls and injuries during sports or other activities. In fact, a strong, flexible core underpins almost everything you do.
Don’t wait for the New Year to start strength training, unless you happen to be getting a ball under the tree.
1. Stability ball crunches
Some experts say that this stability ball crunch activates abs twice as much as floor crunches.
How to perform:
Sit on the edge of the ball. Keep your knees bent and thighs parallel to the floor.
Place your hands behind the head, arch your back and then crunch.
Slowly place the upper back on the ball to complete the rep. Repeat this movement until you’re tired.
2. Stability ball glute bridges
Remember that butt muscles are also part of the core. This exercise activates the glutes and lower back.
How to perform:
Place your upper back on the ball; keep your knees bent and butt off the floor.
Slowly raise the hips as high as possible.
Squeeze the glutes at the top, then lower the hips and repeat.
