So much for Google Street View going to all corners of the globe. That didn’t stop the Faroe Islands — located between Iceland and Scotland — from putting their own team on the ground to get the job done, though.
Since sheep are wandering the islands, anyway, the tourism board decided to equip them with solar-powered cameras to remove the wool from the world’s eyes, so to speak. The results are then uploaded to Google Street View.
The effort did catch the attention of the tech giant in the end, though.
”We’re feeling a bit sheepish that the Faroe Islands are not yet on Street View,” Google said in an emailed statement. “We’ve been looking for vehicles that can take the 360 degree cameras through even the roughest and steepest parts of nature. We haven’t thought of using sheep yet, but this could be a solution!”
