If world domination is determined by badminton, China just won the arms race of racket sports.
In other countries, badminton games are usually confined to gym classes and the occasional picnic, but in China, the game is quite popular. This robot, created by a team of teachers and college students, is said to be able to beat any amateur.
Using a pair of hi-def video cameras to produce stereo images that are wirelessly streamed to an external computer for processing, the badminton-playing robot can track and calculate the exact trajectory of an opponent’s shot, ensuring that it’s always in the exact spot to make a return.
The underlying purpose is to test the robots navigation system, but where’s the fun in that?
