It should (hopefully) some as no surprise that the men and women who make our laws in the United States are elected. It should also (hopefully) come as no surprise that you, the citizen, elects them. But what should surprise is just how much time and effort these lawmakers spend raising money to getting elected, and how little they spend worrying about making laws (read: doing their jobs).
