We’ve heard about using goats and chickens to control weeds, and it turns out ducks have their place in the world of pest control as well.
A South African vineyard employees 900 of them to rush the crop and slurp up every snail and slug they can find, and visitors stop by to watch their twice daily parade.
They’re not just any kind of duck, though. Indian Runner ducks run rather than fly, and have a tendency to lay their eggs as they go as opposed to sitting on a nest, which must leave quite a trail to the vineyard.
After visiting a few parks with sizable duck populations, we assume there’s a free fertilizer bonus from these workers as well.
