Hiker in Israel stumbles on rare Roman coin [video]

This will teach us all the value of watching our step, because had Laurie Rimon been admiring the scenery during her hike in Israel, this rare Roman coin might have gone undiscovered for another 2,000 years. The gold coin, created under the reign of Roman Emperor Trajan in A.D. 107 and depicting Emperor Augustus is only the second of its kind ever discovered. The other coin resides in London’s British Museum. As Rimon told reporters: “I saw something shiny, which I assumed was a coin of sorts. It was so bright and clear at first I thought it was maybe a toy or something.” Guess it pays to satisfy one’s curiosity.
