Anyone who’s ever stood over a pot waiting seemingly forever for it to boil will approach the idea of an entire river being that hot skeptically, yet geothermal scientist AndrĂ©s Ruzo never forgot the tales heard in his youth of just such a thing existing in his home country of Peru.
Except for a smattering of petroleum journals from the early 20th century, there was no evidence in scientific literature that this mystery of the Amazon actually existed, and even Ruzo’s advisor told him to stop pursuing such a ridiculous and impossible occurrence.
And as if that wasn’t mysterious enough, the unusual site is even overseen by its own shaman.
