Dark patterns are ways that websites trick you into doing things that might harm you but definitely benefits the company. In this video, Nerdwriter walks you through closing your Amazon account, which is a pretty excellent example of what’s called a “roach motel” design. In a word, it’s darn near impossible to close your Amazon account if you don’t know exactly what to do, and even then you can’t do it––you have to talk to a customer service agent who will close your account for you.
