One problem with zoos is the way they mess with an animal’s natural instincts, especially the ones that put tasty little morsels of food out of reach.
This male lion at a Japanese zoo was convinced dinner had wandered up, nicely packaged in a yellow slicker. No such luck, thanks to the safety glass.
Not going to lie, I used to use my infant daughter to tempt the big cats up to the glass (not by putting her in the cage, on the railing, or dangling over the enclosure) so the photographers at the zoo could get better pictures. I mean, she was really happy to see them up close, too, but it seemed a shame not to use all one’s resources to help an artist or two in need. Worked like a charm.
